Co-Host: Scott K. Johnson, George Simmons and Cherise Shockley, Founder of Diabetes Social Media Advocacy Mari Ruddy, Director of TeamWILD: We Inspire Life with Diabetes and the Founder of the Red Rider Recognition Program of the Tour de Cure, has successfully lived with type 1 diabetes for more than 31 years. Since her father was diagnosed with type 1 when she was 1 year old, technically, she has lived with diabetes her entire life. Mari was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 16. Her brother was diagnosed with type 1 when he was 20. When she was 39, she found out she had breast cancer, for the first time. She then founded the Red Rider Program for cyclists with diabetes now used at over 91 Tour de Cure events put on by the American Diabetes Association. She founded the Red Riders to celebrate the challenges and hard work it takes to live well with diabetes. When she realized the cyclists needed support to do the Tour de Cure successfully with their diabetes, she founded TeamWILD which provides expert integrated athletic, diabetes, nutrition and mental skills coaching in cycling, triathlon, running and walking. TeamWILD is for people with diabetes who want to take charge of their health by seeing themselves as athletes first. You can find out more about TeamWILD and Mari at http://teamwildathletics.com.
