Johnson, George Simmons and Cherise Shockley, Founder of Diabetes Social Media Advocacy About Mary Mary Podjasek is one of the founders of the Diabetes Scholars Foundation. She currently serves as their President. Mary earned an Accounting degree from DePaul University in 1984. After her daughter was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000 she became involved with the diabetes community including organizing walks for JDRF and volunteering at Children with Diabetes conferences. Mary believes that we need to keep our kids as healthy as possible so when a cure is found, they will be able to get it. The best way for that to happen is by empowering them through education.
